"The Great Wave At Kanagawa"
By Hokusai

Pulled from the water by the artist's brush
a wave arcs high in the air.

Claw-like fingers from its foam reach
toward wooden curved-bow boats of fishermen.

Water elongates, flattens, fattens,
tear-drops into rolls of ocean.

In one ear, a pound of rage, a high-pitched whine.
Wind seizes and throws the sea. Fuji,

in the distance, breathes evenly. The snow peak
matches the white of fishermens' eyes.

as they lean out of the art, trapped
in their course of endless storm.
